A Navy Nuclear trained First Class Petty Officer (E-6) with over 10 years of experience in the areas of nuclear submarine electrical distribution and casualty control operations. A Navy qualified Electrical Operator, Shutdown Reactor Operator, Work Center Supervisor, and Assistant Work Center Supervisor. Steven’s last tour in the Navy was at the Pearl Harbor Naval Shipyard in Honolulu, Hawaii, where he served as the Code 970, Nuclear Services Department Inspector in which he provided the entire organization temporary services for support of nuclear systems and maintenance aboard U.S. Navy submarines and conducted numerous nuclear quality control and cleanliness inspections. One of his collateral duties was to also be the Department Career Counselor, providing educational and career advice and human resource management support to all Nuclear Services Department employees.
He found out about the Power4Vets program via LinkedIn and enrolled into the program around March 18, 2011 and completed his NERC RC Certification around 27 July 2011 prior to getting out of the Navy. His military contract or enlisted obligated service date ended in July 2012 and he is currently working for NY-ISO as Reliablity Cordinator at New York Independent System Operator (NYISO) as of August 2012.

“Discovering the Power4Vets program was a great opportunity for me. I was looking for additional training to help make the transition from military to civilian industry a smooth process so I could find a great job. The staff was very sup
portive in helping me get started and providing guidance at each step. I was able to complete the training while on active duty and it prepared me well for the test. A year later, I received interviews from a co-generation plant, a hydro generation company, a wind company and a reliability coordinator. I accepted the job as the Reliablity Cordinator at New York Independent System Operator (NYISO). Holding a NERC RC certification was a key decision in the company offering me a job. It meant that they could move me along in the training process faster and it removed the uncertainty of whether I could learn the material.
The trainers have been impressed with my knowledge and are pleased that they do not have to worry about me passing the Reliability Coodinator exam because I am already certified. I am very happy with my new job and extremely satisfied with the preparation that I received from Power4Vets. I would recommend the program to all veterans and active or reserve military.”
