A Navy Nuclear trained Second Class Petty Officer (E-5) with 6 years of experience in the areas of nuclear surface electrical distribution and casualty control operations. He served onboard the USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) and started as a Log Recorder Phone Talker, then moved up the ladder and qualified and served as a Switchgear Electrical Operator, Auxiliary Propulsion Electrician, and then qualified as a Load Dispatcher. His responsibility as a Load Dispatcher was to direct and supervise the operation of the ships electrical distribution systems from a central controlling system. He also has technical experience as a Work Center Supervisor and a Nuclear Electrical Technician.
At the time he found out about the Power4Vets program he was currently not employed. He enrolled into the program on 23 February 2013 and successfully achieved NERC Certification by 29 May 2013 and landed a job with PacifiCorp as a Balancing and Interchange Operator in October 2013.
Congratulations, to Isaac Atwood for taking an aggressive approach in the Power4Vets training program, and we are extremely grateful for his dedicated service to his country and we are ecstatic that the Power4vets program helped him to achieve SUCCESS in landing his new career job in the utility industry!!
In Issac’s own words:
“The Power4Vets program is very well put together. Every step through the program you are not just learning the basics of how to operate, you are entering a whole new world of terms, acronyms, and parameters. You may not see it at first, but soon things will start to fall into place. Take advantage of the simulator, and if something doesn’t make sense, keep trying and take the time to find it in the EPRI Dynamics Tutorial to coalesce your understanding. The training that the program gives you is almost impossible to find without actually being hired and on the job. Hopefully I will be able to see more people from the military in the future.”
