Keith Sise story:
A Navy Machinist Mate Nuclear Trained First-Class Petty Officer (E-6) with over 20 years of experience in the areas of power plant operations and maintenance of electrical distribution systems. Throughout his Naval Career he served at a number of commands in various positions of authority. Onboard the USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71), he served as the Ships Maintenance Manager where he was responsible for screening and approving work order jobs for the ship while working in unison with contractors. He tracked man hours, budget, and progress through heavy maintenance periods, ensuring all maintenance checks and projects were executed safely and reliably by field personnel. At the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard Point Loma detachment, San Diego CA, he was the Divisional Leading Petty Officer where he performed quality assurance audit and certifications of work packages for sub safe critical joint assemblies and was the Quality Assurance Inspector overseeing work assemblies and tests and also responsible for chemical testing of pure water for submarines reactor and propulsion systems. Onboard the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) he was the Technical Resources Supervisor where he supervised a team of personnel responsible for the maintenance and continual revision of over 1200 technical manuals, information systems, and references on ship and system construction, maintaining machinery logs and data for security and analysis. Onboard the USS George Washington (CVN-73) out of Japan, he was the Divisional Leading Petty Officer where he supervised Reactor and Secondary maintenance supervisors and provided leadership and mentorship for 30 personnel in production, maintenance, and training (operational and maintenance) of the reactor plant space and wrote watch bills (shift schedule) for an 85-man division resulting in no losses in qualifications or proficiency. He also served as Navy Recruiter in the Michigan Detroit District area where he was the supervisor to a three-person team utilizing mentoring, oral communication, interpersonal, and selling skills to recruit quality individuals for the Navy. He was also responsible for local marketing and advertising, generating, screening, and distributing leads to recruiters and managing recruiters’ production.
Keith’s journey started when he found out about Power4Vets on the NERC Nuke Group and he contacted our team and enrolled into the program in August 2020. He was retiring from the Navy in January 2021 while on sea duty so completing his training, obtaining certification, and landing a job by then was slightly challenging but Keith was up to the challenge and he completed all of the Power System Operation courses by February 2021 and landed a job with Wells Fargo as a Critical Facilities Data Center Technician in January 2021. While working at Wells Fargo, Keith was able to regroup and focus on the final phase of the training and obtain his NERC Certification and transitioned to an awesome job with PacifiCorp as a System Operator Trainee in November 2021.
We are truly proud of Keith for believing and following the Power4Vets program process, and we are elated that he landed such a prestigious career job in the industry as a System Operator!
